I am looking for good bass sound and alot of high end click. Right now i have the bass drum head really tight, with an evans EQ patch where the beater hits. I have a 6 inch whole cut where i mike the drum just inside of the head. When i mix it i take my parametric mids and highs and crank them, and shift the frequencies into the higher end, and roll off a little bass. I want more attack as well as a good solid bass sound. I think i may need to mic on the beater side as well to get the sound that i am searching for. I get great bass drum sounds this way but not exactly what i am looking for. Any help or advice would be great. Our drummer for my band plays extremely fast like Dave Lombardo, Vinnie Paul, Pete Sandoval, Ray Hererra. You can king of see the sound i am after if you know any of these drummers. We are a metalo band andm i need that clicky definable at high speed bass drum sound. Thanks

Definitely get a beater pad, and use a plastic or wooden beater. Mike it tight. I would use a lot of muffling. I heard of a technique of taping a penny to the head and to the beater.....that way you get a heavy "click" when the two combine. I dunno. experiment with it.

Danmar makes metal click pads(for single and dbl kick), use plastic or wooden beaters like mike said.

Vinnie Paul uses the Black Danmar kick pads (not the metal ones) with a wooden beater. He cuts 30db at around 250hz!!! This is so you can hear that 5kz or so range so clearly. He also has one of his bass drum mics just inside the hole and very close to the resonant head. His resonant head is as loos as it gets without the tuning peg things vibrating loose--this gives u that flab sound. his batter head is also quite loose, but not as loose as the resonant head.

Hey thanks everybody, the eqing was a good tip and the penny idea was awesome sounding, even when my band plays out live it sounds awesome thanks
