Can a PCI Firewire card affect recording?

I was having problems with my onboard card, so I went and bought aPC firewire card, and I am thinking everything is brighter through my monitors. Would changing the firewire interface affect that or is my mind playing tricks on me?
 
Firewire only a port that transfers data (numbers). It does not affect the tone of music.

The thing that MAY change is connectivity problems with cheap cards, but it won't affect the quality of the material being transferred.
