can a 688 go out to a reel to reel

I just got a 688. I don't know much about these units and I'm waiting for the owner's manual to come. A friend offer to sell me an 8 track, 1/2" tape, reel to reel. Can I use a reel to reel with this unit. Can the built in tape deck be bypassed? I don't see "line outs" for each track. I know it's all routed internally...Please help, I don't want to pass up on the unit if I can use it...thanks

I don't have my 688, 38 or either of the manuals in front of me,...

but in general,... gut feel,... is that the 688's mixer can be adapted to support recording/playback to-from the Tascam 38,... given certain limitations and standard patching sequences you must adhere to.
