Some great stuff here. Hey, Outlaws, although I wasn't looking for Home on the range type stuff, that Cowboys song book is something I wouldn't mind getting. Love Johnny and have a songbook of some basic folk songs. Beatles, sure, "yellow submarine" is a good one...Kumbaya, only if I must, but Skeeter on your Peter sounds like just the ticket after the kids are in bed.

dragonworks, we love our smores.

yes to CCR, Eagles, and CSN. Definitely Taylor (wife loves him)...what are the chords to "Fire and Rain"?
Thanks to all.

sorry, I'm getting older and haven't sat around a camfire with anyone but the wife in many a year. Excuse my ignorance please. :o

Geez, if I would have played half the music on this list my guitar would have broken and thrown in the fire.

I went to a 4-day music festival last year that was well-attended by musicians and each night we would prowl around the campground looking for jammers. We had a lot of fun with Gloria, Mustang Sally, Fire on the Mountain, Can't You See, Brown-Eyed Girl, La Bamba.

I don't recall what else. I had mucho tequila. Oh yeah, Tequila was another one.

I love a song, that probably nobody has heard, called "Wish Upon a Star" by the Three Blue Teardrops. Very nice song and meaningful. Of course some Hank Williams Sr works well for me too

"The Weight"
"For What It's Worth"
"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
"I Shall Be Released"
"Will The Circle Be Unbroken"
All work pretty well with teens and up. Even if they don't know the words they'll get the chorus.

John Prine wrote alot of gems. Try "Please Don't Bury Me" or "Blow Up Your TV". The kids love it.

Try doing "Puff The Magic Dragon" or "Pufferbellies" slow, sad, and emotional.

Old TV theme songs are fabuluos. "Gilligan's Isle", "The Flintstones", or "The Brady Bunch"

Don't forget Motown. Everybody loves the songs, Most of them are simple to play, and even if they don't remember the lyrics they can have fun screwing up the background vocals.

-Yellow Submarine is always a fun one
-Blowin in the Wind
-usually throw in folsom prison blues, people love that song, same with ring of fire
-time of our life by greenday(I know I know, but for us young kids it holds many grad memories)
-sweet home alabama for sure

the times, they are a changin'

breakfast at tiffany's (assuming you can still stand it after the initialy beating-in on the radio)

+1 for mustang sally (chorus has a good echo)

ELVIS :) Hound dog (12 bar in C), Heartbreak hotel, Jailhouse rock, Blue suede shoes, etc... So many good easy songs that people don't even realize they know until they sing along.

House of the rising sun

I like simon and garfunkel. Most of their stuff is too sedated for groups to enjoy, but 'the boxer' and 'mrs robinson' usually go over well and are fairly easy to strum. 'Feelin' Groovy' (the 59th street bridge song) is a good one, since it's short.

Country roads

leavin on a jet plane.

Bye Bye love

Wild thing

+1 for peter paul and mary. Puff the magic dragon is pretty easy (A, C#m, D, A, C#m, D, E). I used to tease my friend who likes ska (punk version) that it derived from puff, and proceeded to play it in the style to piss him off.

Ramblin' Man

I recently learned 'Basketcase' by greenday the other day and it goes over pretty well for people who like that sort of thing.

Wonderwall (oasis)

Sweet baby james :)
