came with computer soundcards

I have noticed that every since I started recording with my computer, the SB16 days, that there is some annoying sound that ocmes out of the line output... like the sound of processing or something. I noticed that certain windows on the screen effect the volume of that sound. Sometimes when the computer is performing a task like opening up a new window, the sound goes away, until the task is completed. What can I do to get rid of that?

its hard drive noise... i dont think you can do anything about it..i notice it too.. but as far as i can tell , it only effects the line out , not line in... so its not a problem , because its so low its inaudible during playback...

I found the same thing with my SB16. However, when I moved up to the SB Live! it
seemed to clear it up for the most part. I did notice that it didn't make it to my
recordings once I burned them to CD. However, it makes it rather hard to tell
if your track is clean or not until you've already burnt the thing. The new card is
much quiter though. You may want to try rerouting your internal wiring to see
if that helps. You have a lot of things happening in that little box. pete o
