Hi guys, I need some help here.
I have a (Ludwig) double pedal, but when I start going really fast on it, the left leg starts to get a little slower. Also after playing a lot of time my left leg hurts, but not the right one, so I guess the left pedal is way harder than the right one.
What is the best way to calibrate a double pedal?
Also the metal bar (and its moving parts) that connects both pedals is very rusty, maybe that could help too?
Thanks in advance.

i'd start with lubricating all the moving parts. there is a spray lube called 3-36 made by a company called CRC. it is the best damn spray lube you'll ever find. do NOT use WD40, because it is a terrible product, and doesn't even displace moisture. LPS is ok too, but i highly recommend the 3-36. hit your bearings, universal joints, springs, hinges, chains--absolutely EVERYTHING that turns, spins, pivots, etc. i had a sticky dw5000, and was amazed at how much this helped.

another thing to consider--if you set up your pedals so that both of them are pointing straight ahead and the bar is perfectly perpendicular between them, you should get a pretty uniform response. but i've never seen a setup where this is possible for actual playing. instead, the left pedal gets moved back and tilted in, so the "bar" is at an angle to both pedals. as this angle gets sharper, the mechanical resistance increases, and the left pedal gets slower. and i don't know if there's any way around this, other than putting a weight on your right beater arm to slow it down too, and even that might not feel right.

so for what it's worth...:o

I don't know if it's a pedal problem as much as it may be your own conditioning. I think most right-handed standard positioned drummers use their right foot for most of the kick duties when playing anything that doesn't involve double-bassing. So naturally, your right leg will be more "conditioned" to playing the kick. Maybe your left leg just isn't up to speed yet. Just a thought.

Well, I'm almost sure the problem isn't me, since I had no problems with my older double pedal. Well, actually I did at first but I adjusted the hardness of each pedal separetly until they both felt "kinda" equal, but I want to know if there is a proper way to do it, or maybe some tips? Since I dont want it "kinda" calibrated, but really calibrated.

Btw, thanks dross! I'll do that as soon as I have time. I doubt I will get any of those lubricants here... would regular lubricant work? the one you use on doors and stuff?
