Thanks Benny.

What features would those be?? I would do all eq and effects at the studio. The only thing I could think of would be getting a jump on the automation since I am the producer of the album and it is a very specific and involved type of music.

anything that is inherent to PT only. Stuff like comments, plugins/plugin automation and presets (provided you both have the same plugins, of course), I/O setup, buss routing, track alignment, markers, window alignments, track hide/show, groups, session setup parameters, sync markers, MIDI regions/recordings, time/tempo information....and anything else I may have not mentioned. Basically anything that is saved with the session. OMFs are great (I use them all the time), but they only translate a select few options...mainly due to the reason there are so many different options with programs.

Agreed, but is it my understanding that will all be done at the pro studio. As I understood it, DK only wants to bring the raw audio tracks, which OMF should do fine (certainly as well as bringing the individual wave files).

This is what Dachay was suggesting I think. Yes, just bring the disc.
That's exactly what I was suggesting. :D

Another word of caution, I assume you are planning to bring a DVD. With the number of tracks you are suggesting, it is probably not gonna fit on a CD.

.

Yeah, that should be about right.

I will make a mix on Sonar of every song so there is a version of how I think this stuff should be mixed, at least volume-wise. Then I will just bring raw tracks via OMF. I will also have a backup plan of evey individual wav file on another disc (s) in case something goes funky. The main thing is not wasting $$ in the studio transferring files to pro tools.

I have a DVD burner for my excessive fetish porn collection :D :D Actually, I dont think I have ever burned a DVD, I know my computer has a combo CD/DVD burner, I guess I should try it soon.

yeah, I know. that's why I was suggesting only go with buying PT if he needs to transfer those things in the future. If this is going to be the only time working with Pro Tools or he only plans on transferring OMFs with audio data...then you can do that with any other program. But if he would like the flexibility of mixing at home and at the studio in the same program, then maybe consider PT later down the road.

I agree. I need to learn it someday, right now I have a pretty huge workload so if I can avoid it I will. If this project works out, I will be able to buy the real deal full-blown.

If so, then will you adopt me? Please. :(

:D :D

Good luck with it.
