I was trying to setup my new PC with XP on one drive and audio files on the other.

In Global Options, Folders I have Project Files going to C:\Cakewalk Projects and Wave Files going to F:\Cakewalk Projects\Wav data.

I've also specified folder per projet.

When I go and have a look, there are audio and wav files all over the place on both drives, and there's absolutely nothing in the F:\Cakewalk Projects\Wav data where I thought everything was going to live.

Can anyone help me here? Got no idea where anything is

Sonar makes a distinction between project audio files and wav files. For example, if you have a sound effect.... thunder for example as a wav file on you disk and you want to insert it, store that in your WAV folder. When you go to import WAV, that is the folder Sonar will open first to let you look around for your thunder.wav To save recorded audio set the project folder. When you open a new project and go to save it, Sonar should ask where for example if you had specified a folder called projects and you opened a new one called mega hit, Sonar should ask something like:

File name: you would specify MegaHit

Project path: Projects (here I would add this after projects \megahit ---- that will create a folder called megahit and you can store all data in that, otherwise it will all be stored directly into you project folder)

Audio path: Projects\Audio (here I would change to Projects\megahit\Audio)

make sure copy all audio with project is checked (as is use per-project audio folders in your global options under the Audio tab)

Now when you go to your projects folder, you should see a folder marked MegaHit, inside will be the sonar version of MegaHit plus a folder marked Audio which contains all of the audio data for MegaHit

Hope this helps

And none of this will work if you don't specify "Use Folder Per Projects" under Options -> Global... ;)

Okay, Moskus.... now I know how you get your post count up..... repeating data!! :p

Good to see you havn't abandoned the board!

Wops, sorry about that.

I found your explanation a little hard to understand, but hey, I'm norwegian.... :D

And I would never abandon this board! I've just been tied up at work... :(

Thanks for clearing that up for me rjt. I don't suppose there's an easy idiotproof way to move my existing projects from one drive to another without stuffing things up totally?

You could drag you whole Projects folder to another drive and point to it with your folder options. Be careful because initially if you select projects using the recent project list (either from the pop up menu or the file menu in Sonar) it will open the one on the original drive (you could either delete that folder or rename it if you needed a back-up for some time). The bigger problem is if you havn't been saving individual projects to individual folders, then the work around is to open each project one and a time, save using the individual folder method and then deleting everything else. Of course, back up everything first. After you get the hang of it, it is pretty easy to save songs with all of their audio data to individual folders and makes backing-up, deleting etc very easy.
