CAD VSM1, Blueberry, TLM193, TLM103?

Hello Everybody!
I'm looking to pick up a mic in the $1,000 range and right now these are the mics I'm considering. The main purpose of the mic would be to record sax. Have any of you used these mics or others in this price range? Please let me know what your experiences and opinions are.

Thanks.

"The main purpose of the mic would be to record sax."

In that case, I'd go with the TLM 193 out of those choices.

Thanks R.E.,
The 193 is what I've been leaning towards, but I must admit the Blueberry and VSM1 have gotten my attention. I've pretty much eliminated the 103 since I think the wide presence peak would be a little harsh on saxophones. Have you ever used the CAD or B.L.U.E.?

Thanks again.

Whoopsie,
The previous message got submitted twice so this is what I've edited it to.

Take it easy!

I have not used or heard the VSM1 and I've heard the Blueberry a little; and I like what I hear.

I'm almost sure it wouldn't be my choice on sax, though; for the same reason I wouldn't use a 103

Hey you live in San Jose, right?

Do you know where MSC Musician Service Center is? How far is it from the freeway? I need to get my Soundcraft console serviced.

Hmmm...
I don't know where that is, but I could try and help you find out. Is it in San Jose? Do they also work on analog synths? I have a bad oscilator in my Prophet5 that I need fixed.
I'll look it up.

By the way. Do you know anyplace in CA that rents good mics? I'm thinking of renting a few and trying them out myself before I plunk down 1K or so.

Thanks.

Okay,
MSC is just off of HWY 101 one exit south from where 101 meets 280/680. It's on Tully Rd, and there is a Tully Rd exit so it's real easy to get to.
Apparently they have hired some previous Sequential Circuts techs to do the vintage keyboard repair so they can definitely fix my Prophet5!
I'm glad you asked me about them cuz I didn't even know they were here, and they're only 15 minutes from where I live.

I Own a CAD E200 and I love it. I dont think you can buy a better mic for the price.

Hey Saxman,

I, too, am looking for a mic for soprano, alto, tenor, & baritone sax, but no way can I afford the $1,000 price tag. Anything decent down in the $250-$300 range? Right now, all I have is the Shure SM-58.

"mic for soprano, alto, tenor, & baritone sax" "in the $250-$300 range?"

I'd most definately be reaching for an Oktava MC-319 from The Sound Room only for $280US about now. Be right about the $300US range after shipping.

I just bought one with the shock mount. Shipping, insurance and all it was under $350. I probably talked to Taylor for 30 minutes on the phone. What a nice guy.
