i was at a music store the other day looking at sm57 and 58s. but they also had (used) CAD mics... a whole set. all i'm interested in were a couple basic mics to record vocals with.

the guy running the shop said he'd sell me a couple of the CADs for SM57 and SM58 prices ($79 - 89).

Should I do it? or stick with getting Shures. This is just for home recording. you know, i wanted a couple decent mics to have around, but not spend more than $100.

thanks

Are you talking about the shs mikes that cad makes that are Identical to the 57 and 58

or are you talking about the cad large diaphram condencers.

cad

the cad mics were in a set (a couple sm58 lookalikes, a couple small drum mics). he said he'd sell em seperately, so i could only get what i wanted. what's the resale price on these usually? should i consider getting all of them, to resell maybe?

CAD Mic Model Numbers?

Would need to know the model number of the mics. If it's the CAD Model 22 then it sells for $49.99 at Musicians Friend. If it's the CAD Model 585 it sells for $19.99 at MF. These are SM58 lookalikes.

Haven't used one of the above but I do have a CAD E100 condensor mic I use for vocals and acoustic guitar. I have been very satisfied with this mic on both male and female vocals but it seems to prefer male.

Also, check out sales at places like http://www.musiciansfriend.com
http://www.samash.com
http://www.americanmusicsupply.com

At AMS they have a pair of AKG vocal mics for about $50. All in all, you can't go wrong with Shure 58's. You will always have a use for one no matter what you are doing. Get the ones without the switch and save some bucks. You shouldn't have to pay more than $100 for a new one on-line.
