A search here on this mic came up empty.

Anyone using it? If so, what's your opinion on it.

e200

Hi,
ive been using this mic for about six years and have found it to be a very versatile mic. Ive used it on just about everything with no complaints.
Its certainly worth the small price that people seem to be asking for them these days.
Thx

I think he is talking about the second version of the e100.
I have an original e100 and I find it on the thin side, good for some things, bad for others.

Andybot & Farview,

Thanks for responding. Albeit... I find it strange that noone here has an opinion or experience with this mic. It was reviewed in Recording magazine in somewhat of a favorable view. I bought the mic and I am pleased with it thusfar using it in conjunction with an MXL603 on acoustic guitar. I have primarily used it on the body of my Yarii DY55 and the MXL603 on the neck.

FWIW

do a search, theres some scattered posts about it... i hear its pretty good on kicks, but don't take my word for it.

IMHO: I have learned to take Recording Magazine’s word with a grain of salt when it comes to product reviews. I can’t imagine the magazine will say negative things about a product that a paying manufacturer has paid to advertise in their magazine. This is not Consumers Reports!
True, you must read between the lines; and if the author doesn’t use the words “amazing”, “awesome”, “can’t wait to get one”, or “I’m keeping this one” in the review, then it might be worth looking for a second opinion. The one big thing I have noticed about their product reviews is that generally they love every product they review.

Jason,
I am surprised to hear you think it is thin sounding. (the original E-100s) Of course I may not have as much experiance with different mics as you, so my judgement may not be as complete.
I have 2 of them and to me they have a lot of punch in the mid range where many mid and Large diaphram mics are scooped.

They are very transparent in the low end (to me) with a little edge on top(not as bright as the cheaper condensors). For my voice it is the best sounding mic I've found , they are my favorite acoustic guitar mic to date and sound great as drum overheads.

They are not as dark as the Oktava mics but they have a TON of headroom due to the fact they have a battery on board to feed the Phantom power to it during high loads, the phantom power from the preamp simply trickle charges it like a computer's UPS.
