OK. Ive got a 6 channel mixer going into an 8 track digital recorder.

Ive got guitar cables, and speaker cables for my PA (14 gauge).
The mixer has a 1/4 inch Aux output and s/pdif(RCA) tape send output. My recorder has inputs for both. Which output should I use for the best signal (if it matters) and what kind of cables should I use for minimal noise?

On the same note, I have sm58's running into the mixer with XLR cables. Does Phantom Power apply in this case ( I know nothing about Phantom power), if not, what does it apply to?

Thanks

use the digital outs and no, you dont need phantom for a 58. Phantom is used for Condensor mics that require a charge to make the condensor diaghram work.

For a more detailed description search the mic forum.

cool, thanks.

Any body have an answer for the cables? Should I be using my speaker cables to connect everything?

Sorry thought I answered that. Use the SPDIF to go to your recorder. The cable quality doesnt really matter because it's a digital signal and line noise isnt really a factor. A more expensive cable will probably last longer if your moving your gear around alot.

Use instrument cables for instruments.

Speaker cable for speakers.

And regular line level 1/4" and RCA cables for effects sends and what not.

TexRoadkill, you hit everything, square on the head. ;)

peace...
