I decided to get some high quality Mogami cables for using outboard gear when I'm recording through the send/recieve and effect send/returns on my 388, should I get the Mogami 1/4" to 1/4" patch cable or 1/4" to 1/4" instrument cable? Whats the difference? Thanks.

Yo Rocketman:

I think the "patch" 1/4 cables might be short ones. You have a choice with the instrument cables of X number of feet, depending on your needs.

I don't believe there would be any noticeable difference in them. I usually get 10 to 15 foot cables for my studio -- don't need any longer.

Note what Mogami cables you order; some are very high quality and other Mogami cables are just kind of thin ordinary. Get a visual of the cable you are ordering and its specs.

Don't get tangled in cables.

Thanks Hornet, another question here...
I get rather confused with the whole TS TRS difference, I understand TRS cables are balanced but what is the physical difference? How can you tell them apart and what situations are each best used in? Sometimes I think I understand this and then I read something that confuses me more. Thanks! Todd.

Yo Todd:

TRS = tip, ring, & sleeve type connectors.

You can see a difference between regular 1/4 inch and TRS -- TRS has a couple of circles of black plastic or whatever near the tip.

You can see the difference if they are in a catalog.

I don't use TRS cables, YET; but, if you call an 800 number to Sweetwater sound, one of their salesfolks will be happy to clear up the matter for you. As well, 800 to Full Compass or any of the other vendors will do the same. Sweetwater and FC have pretty good customer service.

PS I'm sure Chessie or Blue Bear or Gidge or Spin can give a better definition of the TRS cables.
