I recently bought an old AudioPro board off someone. It's a nice board and the pre's seem pretty clean to me. But I'm trying to record my drums right now. I have a Shure PG48 as an overhead, and a RadioShack mic for my kick and RadioShack mic for my snare. The sound sucks ass, obviously they are not very good mics, but my Behringer 802a was giving me a better sound. Like, it's noticeable suckage, the snare sounds like it's off etc. I'm wonder if it's the cables, like for the RadioShit mics I have extensions using guitar cables and stuff. I put on only the overhead and I got a good sound, but obviously, as an overhead, your not picking up the drums that well by itself, but my snare doesn't sound like it's off. So when I raise faders for the snare and kick it sounds shitty. I need a job to buy some decent mics, but I'm wondering are all these cheap cable extensions fucking with my sound?
