Try experimenting with hangers - tunafish cans or something like that screwed to the 2x4 that so the cables don't get torn up. The larger radius of the can might help, too.

Just wash the can first... :D


I mean, you eat the tuna and then wash the can. :D :D

I like the idea of drywall screws into the 2x4, but the threads are going to be rough on the cables over time. What about pounding in big nails instead?

The only problem I see with covering the nails with electrical or similar tape is that sooner or later the tape is going to get the cables a bit gunky. Maybe shrink wrap the screws?
 
actually, I only use the screws for snakes, becasue they are a bit heavier. Mic cables and such get regular nails. Nice and smooth.
