Yeah I went back through and balanced bass/drum levels soloed, then added another group and balanced that, another group, etc. Some of the issues just sorted themselves out after that that.

I think I might take a little of the low energy and move it to the low mids instead though. In the car it sounds like the highs are good but there's not much mids or low mids. Having trouble getting clarity from individual instruments too. I wonder if it's the number of tracks but I don't think there's too much going on at once really. I put a ton of eq on trying to keep things from competing with each other but they don't seem separated. Better than before but still muddled. It's like bright one half and overly dark the other, nothing in between.

I think I got it sorted. I know it's a cliche by now but I found the cheapest speakers in the house (an iPod dock) and mixed with them until they sounded pretty good. Eased eq on some things, added it to others, and things seem improved. I think I'll call it good now, maybe do a revision some time in the future but I'm kind of sick of this song for now haha

Sounds great. The last version seemed a little light on the high frequencies (those snare hits and high-hats sounded kind of subdued), but they seem to be a bit further forward in the most recent mix. Any further critique is beyond my abilities.
