buying XP Home full version oem

Well no, I am not saying that's the only protective measure, I am just saying another one.
 
Beezelbub, going from W98 to anything else is a major upgrade. :) So far I installed XP on 2 machines for friends and it is indeed a good performer. Easy to install and not needing to reboot during install as often as previous versions.

But one of those pcs had a bit of troubles, faulty ram module and non-xp-comp apps screwing things up. While this would have been easy to fix in W98 or W2K, the only way possible here was a re-install of xp. Each time with activation yada,yada. Not exactly fun. Could be I'm not good enough with xp, I don't use it myself.

As for linux being beyond you, give it a try. Don't you have a spare 30GB right now?
