hola guys im new here.great site!!! im a flamenco guitar student in rotterdam wanting to record my compositions.
i need to record mainly my guitar, plus some violin/sax.. i have a condenser mic and computer(desktop)
my budget is cca. 400$.
i came out with E-MU 1616.

but then i see many!!!! firewire/usb/cd cable audiointerfaces for less money like Edirol FA-66 or even less- Rolls GCI404 and i wonder if that s also good for me(they also record in real time) (saving some money for buying new guitar in future)

a producer i know once mentioned me its the best to buy soundcard, recording preamplifier and ad converter seperately.
i made quick search and i could make it under 400$.(for example PCI souncard E-MU 0404(100$), preamp M AUDIO DMP3(150$) and adda converter BEHRINGER ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC 2496(100$). (p.s.that s just an example of a quick search)

is doing like that much better? why?

thank you very much for any help. alone in this, i feel completely lost.
(p.s. sorry but im not allowed to post links bcause this is my first post)

I wouldn't bother getting a separate AD converter unless you want to spend the money on a quality one. And if you're just recording guitar it probably wouldn't be worth it...

Get a couple Naiant microphones (don't be fooled by the price), an M-Audio DMP3, and a decent sound card (I use the M-Audio 24/96). You will probably want to record your guitar in stereo using 2 mics.

I use Naiant's, DMP3, and 24/96 and if you want to hear what they sound like you can go here:

thanks for reply, danny. man very nice playing! La danza has very nice feeling, very relaxing. i hope i ll be able to post my stuff soon too.
the sound is crystal, crispy.like it.Naiant i will give a try.

M-audio DMP3 looks nice, also the price went down-now its 160$ but i found an old picture with the price of 400$ on the box.
what do u think about the SM Pro Audio PR4V? price only 80$ and looks damn good!!
and one more preamp: ART Tube MP, anyone any good experience?
these three are the candidates. :)

now the soundcard: M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 or E-MU 0404 PCI?
p.s. are all preamps (the SM Pro Audio has 4XLRinputs) compatible with these two cards?

any new suggestions guys, now that we got more specific? :)

okay one more thing: what is the difference between E-MU 0404 (dig. audio system) and E-MU 1010 (PCI card)?
or in other words which one works together with preamp?

i wouldn't suggest to get the sm pro audio equipment. I personally haven't used it but a lot of people I know have and they all say how it always drops out because of heat issues.

I'd stick with the dmp3. I've used it and it's very nice. Try out those niant mics, if not get the $150 package of mics the AT2020 and At2021. I have thos emics on on acoustic guitar there incredible! As for the sound cards i've heard a lot fo good things on that. I had the m-audio delta 1010LT and couldn't of bene happier but i just recently sold it and now I use an alesis multimix 16 usb 2.0 mixer instead.

My bets bet is either...

The emu sound card - $100
AT2020/21 mic pack- $150
OR
Niant Mics
DMP3 Mic Pre- $160

If you ever plan on recording distorted guitars, i'd suggets maybe picking up an SM57 and a niant condenser mic. You could record the distoreted guitars with the 57, and the acoustic with both. The sm57 beleive it or not works very well with acoustics, and so do niants.

hope i helped some

i decided for preamp maudio DMP3 and soundcard maudio Audiophile 2496.

together costs me 264eu.
the nearest alternative was emu 1616pci.for 350eu.

now i have the akg c1000s. u think i can use it together with at2020 or better buy two naiants. btw, where can i find naiant stereo pack??

Yo Nei! Welcome to the board! Just for fun, try dropping an email or PM (private message) to Han on this board. He hasn't posted in a while, but he runs a pretty high-end studio in Nederland.-Richie
