Buying new Soundcard

Hi there..

Im thinking of buying Audiophile 2496 (pci version), but Im looking around for some newer card (still in the same price range) that could be of same quality or better.

What about the new Audiophile 192 ?

Is it really better with PCI than USB or FIREWIRE? I have enough space in my pc.. so the card would be some slots away the next card (so I guess no interference sounds will get in)

anyhow.. I would need also a Pre-amp/phantom, so here, I will buy a little mixer, and were thinking about Behringer Eurodesk or the new Xenyx models.. that should be the new way to go... better pre´s/phantom than Eurodesk, and in some models Firewire connection too.

and... my uses would be, in privat... to record lets say. 2-3 guitar tracks + 1 vocal + 1-2 backvocal in some parts + bass. (all... once at a time, by me)
the rest... keys and drums will be midi or sample/loops.

Would I need a big mixer?... or just one with 1 or 2 inn´s ?

I would ditch the mixer idea completely and look into external pre amps. You can mix with the software in your computer. The Audiophile 24/96 is a rock solid card too by the the way.

Is there a better Pre-amp than the one in the new Behringer Xenyx Mixers for the same price?

lets say if I buyed the 502 model for 57 € (68 USD) (this model is the smallest... (Premium 5-Input 2-Bus Mixer with XENYX Mic Preamp and British EQ)) same Pre-amp as the most expensive model of the Xenyx series that cost 428 € (513 USD), so the Pre-amp should be a good one.

I could/would still mix from software like Cubase or Sonar.


Dont you think I get a pretty good Pre-Amp for that price? (57€ = 62 US$)

If not...

Wich one do you guys recommend me?... I want something good for a low budget (lets say 80 USD or less)

those mixers have'nt been released yet. also, don't believe everything a company claims. it's usually just marketing hype, especially with behringer.

if you're lookin to get one cheap mic pre, that little mixer will probably be fine for home use.

I guess that if the Xenyx model arent yet released, I could get almost the same expectative from the Eurorack series.

Holy... I just saw, watching the Specs for MXL 990 mic. that it has FET Pre-amp incorporated!!
(but it also says that requires phantom power)... hmm...

you will need a preamp and phantom power for the 990. most pre's and mixers have phantom power, including the behringers.

Yeah, phantom power (+48v) is needed for all condenser microphones as they need more power to work.

A pre amp is not a must, but highly recommended.. You will get very low signal if you dont use one.
