Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a headphone ( prefer over-ear or full size ) for monitoring purpose as well as music enjoyment.. I'm not a super audiophile, just get starting on home recording and enjoy daily music that's it. Any suggestion on that? Comfort and quality will be a major factor to me, my music genre will be majority pop rock, country, classical...

For tracking, I like Sennheiser HD280 PRO, especially for their excellent isolation. For comfort and all-purpose listening, I like Audio-Technica ATH-M50. The isolation, while good, is not as good as the Sennheisers, but they are more comfortable to wear for a long period of time. Both sound good.

+2 on the HD280s. A lovely sounding headphone on a wide variety of music...and comfortable to wear for long periods too.

One thing I did find out in a field situation recenly is that as the temperature nears 100 degrees F., the fake leather over the foam on HD280's will actually melt! What a mess. I'm writing Sennheiser to see about parts replacement. Fortunately, my wife had her AT's with her, and I wound up using those. I'll let y'all know what Sennheiser has to say about it.

HD280s are kinda the SM58 of headphones if you want to spend a bit more check out the HD380s I have both and love both at their price points.

Sennheiser HD280.. seems it has won majority heart =D
but I have some friends mentioned about sennheiser give good sound but somehow not the comfort.. is it true?
someone actually suggested Audio Technica ATH - TAD 300.. is it really good?

Wear any headphone long enough and it gets hot and sweaty but I never had a noticeable discomfort, the 380s are definitely more comfortable because they don't touch the ears at all but I think you're picking straws at this point as they are very adequate headphones.

It depends on the ears. Like shoes, what suits one person won't suit others.

The HD280 is a huge favourite of mine and I've used a pair for many, many years. However, one thing to watch is that the cup size is fairly small so, on some people, there might not be as much isolation as other styles. I've never had a problem but have just occasionally had issue with bleed if I lend mine to a vocalist.

I used the HD280 Pros for many years, but now I've purchased and fallen in love with the Audio Technica ATH-M50 already mentioned. The clarity is a couple notches better, and the bass isn't muddy but all the frequencies are still there. I found the HD280 to be great for $100, but for $50 more I really feel the M50s are leaps and bounds better. Not even sure what the next step up would be, or why I would need it. When I want the best clarity for final mix touchups I switch to my studio monitors.
