buying another mixing board

I was studying on buying a new mixing board mostly just because I want to record anywhere from 1 to 8 channels at a time without having to switch cables around all the time. The equipment I have right now is the Behringer MX2442A, 2 blackface ADATS, numerous effects hardware, EMU 1212M soundcard. I would still like to stay in the hardware/ analog mixer realm though. Really looking for an 8 bus mixer or something with direct outs with at least 16 channels or more. Price range of 0 to $600. Any suggestions or input how i can route cables without plugging half way into inserts?

You're going to be hard-pressed to find 8-bus architecture for anywhere near that cheap unless you find something extremely used. A used Mackie 24*8 might be something to fish for.

I had looked at the behringer 32 channel board for like $559, with 8 busses but I don't know if it is worth it or not, but thanks I will look into the Mackie
