Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
I have an older roland, a JV 80. I like it a lot, and I have a cool pcm card in it I love. However, the buttons are starting to go. I really have to mash them pretty brutally to get them to work. Is there any hope for them, or should I just continue mashing until they die completely?

Call Roland support and see if they still have parts. You would be surprised how helpfull they are and how many old parts they still have. I have known ppl buying parts for old MKS-70s and Jupiters (usually knobs and such, ICs are kinda hard to come by). But tack switches should be fairly common since they always use them across the board

Can such things be cleaned?
Most rotary switch and potentiometers would probably be sealed or locked with metal tabs bent over. You risk the potential of work hardening the tabs and having them break off. Replacement would be best. At the very least, if Roland no longer stocks them, you might be able to find out from Roland who their OEM supplier was/is for the item and buy direct from them. The OEM supplier might even have an updated replacement for it (This might affect he sound/tone of the circuit though so be careful).
Also, have you checked the part for a manufacturer's name and/or part/model number?
