heatsink

So I need to get two 80mm fans and mount one in the back and one in the front?

Cooling fans

I was thinking getting two of these and putting one on the rear and one in the front

Vantec ''Stealth'' 80mm Case fan,Model:SF8025L

and then get

Speeze''FalconRock''CPU Cooler for Socket A/370,Model: 5F286B,Retail

Would this count as the heatsink for the CPU?

Would these three things be adequate to cool an OC'd computer?

Yep. Looks like the right heatsink/fan. I think the case comes with a glow fan, at least the case I bought for a customer just like that did. It was a dual color red/blue fan. Then get an extra 80mm glow fan for the Speeze for $10 or so if you want a little extra glow light factor (It mounts right up since it's the same thing). If your case comes with the same red/blue glow fan, I think an orange fan on the CPU would be kinda neat. Then you can do something with the stock heatsink fan or stuff it in a drawer as a spare...

Add: The CPU heatsink will cool nicely and will be very quiet with a big 80mm fan on it. If the heatsink comes with a "pad" on it, I prefer to clean it off with sticker remover like Goof Off and use heatsink compound. This results in additional 3 degree F drop in CPU temps.
You want to get all of the pad off so the metal is nice and smooth, then apply a few drops of heatsink compound to the "die" of the Barton (the center bump) spread it around with your finger so the compound is nice and even. You don't need many fans in the computer, just the one that comes in the power supply and another inlet fan up front to suck air in. On the inlet fan, you want the stcker to be pointing towards the inside of the case and the fan blade side toward the outside of the case so it pulls air in. If you can't mount it up front, mount it in the rear below the power supply as an additional exhaust fan.

Even with a 185 MHz fsb it will only run about 117 F or so. Plenty cool since my Barton runs about 125 F with my ultra crappy case and no ventilation.

cooling setup

So I have to put a heatsink on the cpu and then a fan on the heatsink? Is it a specific kind of fan that sits on top of the heatsink? Then the fan on the case will work correct?

Yea.. With that heatsink you could get an 80mm case fan that glows and it will fit and have the right conneciton for the mainboard fan connector. Actually When you buy the LED case fans, they come with an adaptor so you can hook it up to your mainboard fan connector or a regular power connector...

the fan

I'm thinking about doing the following. Using the stock fan that is on the case and then the Speeze heatsink with the following fan on the heatsink.

Vantec ''Stealth'' 80mm Case fan,Model:SF8025L

Sound good? That should do it correct?

Maybe take the lighted fan and put it on the heatsink for looks and use the Vantec as the inlet fan. Then take the stock speez fan and save it as a spare.
Since the Vantec is a quiter fan, it would make the best inlet fan since thats what you're gonna hear the most with it on the front or side of the computer.

fan

The lighted fan is in the rear. So I can take the fan I buy and put it there then take the lit one from the rear and put it on the heatsink and that's all I need?

I have an A7N8X Deluxe board, and it's been excellent- just don't plan on going to a Motu soundcard with it (which I know you're currently not planning) -as I've never seen anyone with an operatable Motu soundcard with the board, with the exclusion of the game of chance 828MKii

I am doing something similar, building a very similar computer in fact. And i plan on buying a very good sound card, perhaps the MOTU sc. So what mobo would you recommend? A gigabyte mobo?

Yep. Should be cool. Swapping the heatsink fan with the glow fan will take you 5 minutes and then you just have to decide where you want the Vantec to go. If you mount it where the glow fan currently is then make it an exhaust fan. If you put it on the side (not sure if that case has a mount in the side panel) or front , make it an inlet fan. I think I mentioned in a previous post, but the side of the fan that has the framing and sticker is the "output" side of the fan. The side with the fan blades is the "inlet" side of the fan... (Just in case you didn't know)

The only small prob you might have if is the glow fan uses a large power connector hooked into the power supply and not a small one hooked into the mainboard. In this case you wanna hook the vantec to the CPU fan connector on the mainboard or disable the CPU fan warning in the BIOS if it has such a setting. That way the maniboard doesn't beep you about a dead fan, which is feature that's not all that impotant with larger 80mm fans anyway.

I guess if the motu doesn't did the the a7n8x deluxe than it probably won't dig Nforce2s in general. Maybe do a little research and see how they work with a KT600 based board like the Asus A7V600....

RAM

What's the best RAM for overclocking. I want to overclock my 2500 to 3200. I am going to be using 2 512's giving me a gig of ram.

I made the order for the first half of everything I need. I ordered it from NewEgg.com. All I have left is the RAM, the hard drive, and the DVD burner. I went ahead and ordered what I could because the prices had gone down on a couple of things since last week and I didn't want to miss the deals. I was able to get free shipping on everything. Not bad if you ask me.

I just bought a set of 256MB Kreton Blitz extreme PC3500 CL2 DDRs. Got em from New Egg. It was a little under $100 for both modules and so far they work great. The 512 MB versions are $92 each. I'm running 190 FSB but I have the timings set 2.6v- 6,3,2 CL2 which is about as fast as you can possibly set DDR memory. At 200 FSB/mem they work fine 6,3,3, CL2 but I had to realy crank up the CPU voltage to make the Barton happy at 2.2GHz. Decided 190 fsb at 1.7v was good enough just to be on the safe side. That extra 100 MHz isn't really worth it if you have to run insane voltages to get there...

ram question

So I can use PC3500 with my setup and it will work good? What's the advantage over PC3200? The 512 chips are 92 each?

Just extra headroom. Those chips can run 216 MHz CL2 so the memory isn't an isue if you overclock...

made the purchase

I just ordered the last of what I need. Daffydrunk I went with the PC 3500 that you suggested. Only one 512 stick and will add more when possible. I'll let you guys know how it works out.

Jimmy

Should be fine. You don't get the added speed of the dual channel DDR with only one module, but it isn't that big of a deal anyway. The main thing is setting the memory timings fast...
