I got a drum builder around where I live. He is doing that for 30 years and I guess he is not still getting anywhere.

he builds all the parts by himself. I want to have something built by him, a smaller bass, a 10" tom and a picollo snare. But I am very uneasy with the process he is making. he has the lugs forged in nickel iron or steel etc. I don't know exactly. but when I reassemble the lugs from my own no-name (I guess from taiwan) kit, they weigh half of the guy's own lugs. they are too massive.

I will try to order some good hardware from the internet, and have the shells built by him. But I don't have any idea if he has some precision information about building them. ( I feel like he just takes some wood and glues it together, I don't see no craftsmanship in his work)

anybody got any tips on how to build drums? what kind of wood with what thickness? etc. etc.

why don't I go to the store and buy myself some new drums? because this will cost really really cheaper.

?????????????
if you don't see any craftmanship in his work, why would you buy product from him? just because it's cheap? that could potentially be a bad decision...IMHO

if you're seriously thinking about having him build you something - ask some questions - where does he get his shells, etc.
