Hey everyone, I have some questions about bass traps and here it goes. I've been looking to build my own bass traps and am at a loss as to what info is the right stuff to go by on these forums. I am looking to build bass traps out of 24" x 48' panels of something... Now what that something is i'm not exactly sure yet. Everyone swears by the 703 but the prices are outrageous and i know nothing about rock wool or where to get it but i heard it's cheaper. Should i build 4" or 6" traps and could you possibly point me in the right direction for either of those previously mentioned materials or a alternative to them? I would greatly appreciate your help in this matter. Also, there is a place that sells john mannsville insulation by me but it has the white or foil backing on it. I'm sure as to the exact product number of the JM but is this an alternative.
Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge.

well what ever material you buy, the thicker you make the panel the lower the freq it will absorb. so depending on your room size, the deeper the panel. and as many as you can build - do it. start with floor to ceiling in all four corners. then go from there. and it's best if you can cut them in triangles so they fill the corner or do a panel on each wall connecting in the corner instead of straddling.

do some more research there's a ton of stuff out there. i'm not the most qualified to give you the best answer but i hope that helped

Making a room sound good is not going to be cheap any which way you slice it. I bought 7 cases of OC 703 recently. I built 3 superchunks and will construct additional absorbers with the leftovers. My room is 36' x 16' x 9'. I also bought 6 real traps a while back plus I have three 2' x 4' two inch foam wedges. This might be enough to treat my room to a decent degree. All together I spent about $1200.
