building a guitar

I also built my own guitar; for the body I ended up using cherry for the body, and I think it looks AWESOME. As for the sound, I don't really have much to compare it to, but it think it sounds great (although a lot of that sound is probably the pickups and the amp etc).

BTW, all the parts, like pickups, hardware, etc, were from Carvin. Worked great!

This is from when it was still being built, but you get the idea.

I am working on a mapel guitar as we speak. I have no idea what shape I am going to do the main cut, but this should be fun. I am thinking of buying a pre-made neck because I am lazy and it seems that the neck is where most of the work is.

i'll post some pictures soon.... so you can see the beauty of maple

1. the maple doesn't weigh a ton
2. after 3 coats of danish oil, i put two coats of poly on top for protection

i ordered all my hardware from Stewart-Macdonald (http://www.stewartmacdonald.com/)..
including the maple thru-body neck, a must have for a top of the line guitar.. (ill put a picture on later today)...

chances are that my maple guitar has a brighter sound than tourettes5139's cherry guitar, which is probably very warm, but he is right, pickups and amp make the biggest difference (many off the shelf guitars are basswood nowadays, might as well be balsa)... and i'm sure my guitar doesnt sound like alder, but i'd prefer it to sound unique anyway..
