Hey,
I think I'm ready to purchase all my recording stuff but I do have a few more questions. Should I order overhead mics? If so, how many? and which one do you guys recommend.

Here's what I plan on buying:
Audix Fusion 4 Mic pack (3 toms, 1 kick/floortom)
Shure Beta 52A (borrowing from a friend)

About the mixer..
Here's the on I'm planning on buying,
Yamaha MG12

If I run out of XLR inputs to use, can I use a XLR > 1/4 converter? The reason I ask this is, I plan on getting a mic for my timbale sometime later, but I'm not sure if their are enough inputs?

I will be connecting this into my Ibook g4 laptop.

Thanks
John

You can use an XLR to 1/4" converter so long as the mic doesn't require phantom power. By this I mean XLR to 1/4" tip-sleeve (unbalanced). Some mixers can put phantom power to a 1/4" tip-ring-sleeve (balanced), but this is rare.

I would plan on only using the 1/4" for a dynamic mic.
