Hmm, went through the archives and saw alot of Alesis Studio32 bashing going on. Just when I was thinking of getting one! What I want to ask though is, what if I use one of these budget consoles purely for mixing only? For instance, if I got one of those Sytek 4 channel mic pres and a JoeMeek VC1Q, and used these purely for tracking, would the afore-metioned budget console (or any other for that matter) then suffice as a mixing tool? Or are they just COMPLETELY and UTTERLY sh*te in every aspect? I'd love an Allen and Heath GS3000 mind you, I just can't f*ckin afford it!!!

i've heard that the eq on them sucks, which wouldn't be good for recording purposes.... anything by allen and heath is supposed to have much better eq than mackie/alesis, but then again you said you can't afford that... i don't remember whether mackie has better eq than alesis though, sorry

That's ok. Finally had a look at one in the showroom and gave up trying to kid myself. The EQ is indeed fiddly and rather weak. Also, the whole darn thing looks and feels like a "junior" console for learning kids. Oh well. You get what you pay for, eh. Sigh.

I wouldn't refer to it as a "junior board"
just a budgetary board for individuals who are into homerecording and must pay a mortagage, support 2 kids, car note, etc. :)
However,I do have some complaints with the A-32 such as
weak midrange controls,half-ass pres, but overall it suits
my needs until bonus time comes on my job. Then I can really invest in "Real Board"
Peace

I get whatcha mean. Didn't mean to sound snobby or anything, just that it's difficult trying to pretend you're Phil Spector when you're hunched over an Alesis 32, heheh! Hell, I can dream can't I??!! :)
