You really have your own totally unique sound dobro. You also have a nice way of mixing your voice in with your instruments.
Love the nylon strings too. Not too boomy. Just right.

Scott pretty much summed it all up. Great tune my friend.

Okay, I'm going with the flow here. Nobody says there's much wrong with the mix, so that's the lay of the land for me. I've posted four songs here in the last few weeks, and what I've learned from the feedback to those four will be basis of how I mix the whole album, except for one other song, which is problematic. Here's the details:

* boydrj - it isn't a flute, it's four flutes. Strange things go on when flutes play together. It's a known fact - they change the sound.

* Stratomaster - I had a longer version, but the other guy got bored with it, so I had to dumb down to the one you heard here.

TR - cheers, rodent

dtb - yes, and as always to you, sir :D

I thought every song you have posted was good, and the recordings excellent..

this is now my favorite of yours, song and mix..

this is the first song I've heard from you.

It's very different and very relaxing. I like it, Don't usually hear stuff like this, very nice.

look forward to hearing more soon

I like this chord progression that takes an unexpected turn several times, seems to settle down momentarily (like taking a deep breath) and then inserts one more turn before resolving.

A technique that Bach used to good effect.

I didn't like the way the flute was recorded. Not that it was too loud relative to the rest of the mix, just that flute recordings I like have more of that "percussive" edge to it.

Check out the Joe Farrell flute solo on Chick Corea's "Spain" on his "Light as a Feather" CD.

>did you know that the "real" professional refinishers of yacht finishes, find it best to take the boat out to sea, strip down, and then do their final varnish coats...?

sounds like the same legend I heard about those harvesting cannabis resins for hash production!

This is good, man. The recording is really clean--really clean. The flute is very nice as well. Is that you playing it? man, I tried playing one for a while and I got so dizzy I had to stop! I also liked the lyrics--all around good stuff!

Don't know if anybody asked you, but what is your setup--mics, pres, recording media etc?

Really good....but then that's what everyone else said. Let's see.....have to come up with something original.....nope, really good is all I've got.
The guitar sounds wonderful and the playings very nice. I can't think of anything that I don't like about it. Wait , I've got something.....I don't like that I didn't write it.....................

Real nice tune, the guitar sound is excellent.
I loved the flutes,very sweet.
Reminds me of King Crimson, with less reverb.:D

Real fine song,thanks.

b sabbath - sweet comment, thanks

muzeman - I'll play with reverb more, but I want that up-close sound for this album

lt bob - cheers

crawdad - hey, thanks - flute, voice and guitar through a Rode NTK and a Mindprint Envoice. Also an AKG C480B on the guitar. I think the only way to get a better sound, short of buying a very expensive mic and a Grace or Davisound pre, is to work on the room, which is what I'm doing now.

drstawl - yeah, fair enough, but it's the best I can do right now. The flute tracks cost me about $600. A few months ago, somebody at work was selling a new Yamaha flute for half price. I couldn't say no. However, I couldn't play flute either (I just got dizzy like crawdad), so I signed up for lessons. Four months later, I can get the sound you heard here. Also, when flutes play together (even when people really know how to play them), interesting things crop up in the sound - extra tones and stuff - a bit of that might be affecting the sound here.

yiordanaki - good, I'm glad you found it relaxing. On this album, I put a lot of the lyrics with heavy content against rather calm or upbeat music. It entertains me that while I'm singing about some really hair-raising stuff, somebody's contentedly humming along and feeling mellow. :)

Dobro--one of the things I thought, but didn't say was--you have a pretty good room to record in! i didn't hear much in the way of early reflections or room resonances--which is one of my current problems. Hopefully, by this time next year I will have a tuned room to record in myself. Its always something, isn't it!
