Brother is moving out and taking his MicroKorg

For all this time i've been a free-loader and have had my brothers MicroKorg hanging out in my studio space. Now he is moving out and taking it with him.

Now I'm forced to do something. I've brought up two options for myself.

1. Buy a MicroKorg, or just another synth in general.
2. Buy a MidiController (which I understand that the MicroKorg can be used for) But just buying a controller is much cheaper. And then running all soft synths on the computer.

What do you think is a better idea?

If you like the sounds in the MicroKorg and are comfortable with the small keys buy another MicroKorg.

If you've got a bunch of soft synths on your computer or intend to get a bunch of soft synths on your computer a full sized controller might make more sense.

Thanks! Those look like some nice choices. I was looking at the M-audio one a while back. I remember seeing it at Guitar Center. If I remember correctly, the keys felt really cheap, maybe the Edirol is better.

To my memory I haven't used the Axiom series so I can't comment, but I have used the Edirol and found it to be solid --- at least as solid as any other lower priced keyboard controller.

MAudio makes a bunch of keyboard controllers and I've read - on this board and elsewhere - praise for the Axiom's semi-weighted action. Maybe give the Axiom another look before you reject it, but look at the Edirol too...

The microkorg's baby keys were a bad mistake IMO. If you attain any level of proficiency in playing it, you will basically have to relearn to play a normal size keyboard someday.

Yeah I know, I don't even play much but going from the Micro to justabout anything else, its a bad transition.

might want to look at the micron also, about the same price but a lot more synth (same engine as the Ion)

I'd still consider it Nick, just as I am...u can get a lot out of midi controllers like that..it also has pads for programming drums..if needed. I think you can get more out of midi controllers than out of just one synth.
