Hey, just got the BR1600cd today, and loving it :D

However, having some issues with the input levels. On my mic's i'm having to turn the Input Sensitivity knobs up nearly 100% in order to get a decent signal from them (still about -14 or so) Shouldn't this be well up closer to +0?

Using the auto-level calibration doesn't seem to change much, just balances everything.

The mic's i'm using are replica SM58s, no phantom power required.

Any help would be much appreciated.

That's the way they are judge by your ear and the little red light by the input knob, it should just be lighting up a little on the peaks anymore and you'll distort the preamps. I have to run pretty hot too 75% off the time on my mics(sm-58,sm-57 and MXR 990 condenser) but not all the way up depending on the source. Again use the input light to set it up.

Mine are the same. I usually crank the input sens knobs almost all the way up, and then adjust the master input level knob to get the right level. I am always just recording one instrument at a time, so this works ok. Not sure it would be that effective with multiple instruments. Also, the last 3 indicator lines on the input sens knobs make a HUGE difference in level. It seem like at about max minus 3, there is a huge increase in level, which also equates to extraneous noise. I usually keep it just below that level.
