Very clear and well-captured performance. Reminds me of the Weather Channel...better, but in the same vein.

Keyboards sound awesome. At times very Steely Dan-ish.

I wouldn't presume to know the first thing about low-passing the reverb on a guitar or anything (sounds fine as is?), but I think you already hit on the thing with that instrument...it has a great sound for perhaps another genre, but I would've expected a thicker smoother tone for this sort of piece.

Very well done regardless.

Man... There are some really great things about this tune. The sound you were so worried about in the guitar, in my opinion, is one of the song's best assets. I wouldn't change a thing about the guitar.

I agree wholeheartedly with Greg about the cymbals. I own a Roland keyboard (the RS-9, not even in the same realm as the Phantom series), and before I had the ability to record my own set, I recorded an entire album with the very few drum samples my keyboard provided me. The worst thing about the keyboard's drums were definitely the cymbals. Anyway...

Yeah, loved the key sounds, as well as the guitars. The bass part really kept my attention, too. I loved the snare rimshot (if that's what it was) at the beginning of the song, but the full-on snare was way too bright for me. The snappy snare sound in general works great for songs of this genre, but the sample chosen almost sounds like you're hitting a single head with a snare attached to it. Not much body at all.

The sound of synth cymbals is dodgy in general, but you've also got to be careful with the types of cymbals you use, as well. There's a hit on what sounds like a china type at the beginning of the song which sounds completely out of place. Smooth grooves like this demand smooth cymbals. The trashiness of a china just doesn't fit. The splash used, I think fits well.

Wow... I'm rambling.

Great tune, great instruments, okay drums, re-record the cymbals. mmmkay?

Is it just me, or is there a lot more "happening" on the left than the right? Everything interesting seems to be farther that way: rim shots, cymbals, most of the keys, the rock organ, the guitar. The only exception I'm hearing is the brass.

Otherwise, I can't really find fault with it.

Once you work out the cymbals - which I hope is not too much work - you should copyright this baby. Then grab Rami and together submit your tunes to Taxi. Or wherever it is you submit to. Man, you both have stuff that would go right on to the tube with little to no changes required. Outstanding! :D:cool::D:cool:

That was fun to listen to -- I didn't hear much going on below 120 hz or so - maybe like Gerg I'm thinking you could turn up the kick drum some, but maybe not - it definitely worked as it was.

Great to hear you again, dude!

I pretty much agree with all the comments about cymbals, the snare and the guitar tone -- but, jeez! -- this is a great 'throw together'.

I got a definite Bob James vibe off of this one -- except for the horns :). I like the horns, but they did seem a little muddy on the bottom.

Good stuff!

Great jazz tune (this coming from a metal guy...:D)
But the musicianship has all my admiration. Not being an expert, nothing jumped out at me and the mix sounds great. You should hang out here more, Teysha.

Joey :):):):)

Thanks everyone for your critiques. It appears unanimous...the cymbals need some attention. I literally opened the box on the G6 the same day I recorded this. I've got some work ahead of me addressing the aggressive velocity parameters within the drum kits. Actually, across alot of the patches...it seemed to be very sensitive to aftertouch and impact. Fortunately, with that large display and the ability to connect a USB mouse, editing those parameters will be much easier and faster. I think I can even do it on my laptop when I connect to the G6 via USB.
Of course, I've been beating my old N364 into submission for 10 years, so virtually any keyboard seems sensitive compared to that old workhorse.
And yeah, Joey....I'll be hanging out abit more.:)

I do hope to retrack this next month and bring it up to par. There's some timing issues in the horn tracks (6 of them) that are bugging me, as well as some early/late entrances sprinkled across the piece. So, it'll be tighter when we get together next month.

Again, thanks for your ears and your experience. Your critiques are very, very appreciated.
