Hello all

After years of making music in Reason I've very recently gone back to using a Fostex X-28H four-track cassette recorder, and have a query about bouncing down.

On tracks 1 and 2 are the right- and left-hand channels of a stereo drum machine backing track. It has lots of panning in it, which I want to preserve. I want to bounce these down onto track 4, in stereo, but whenever I try to do this the result on track 4 is mono. Surely with such machines it is possible to bounce down while retaining the stereo picture? Any hints appreciated.

No. You have 4 mono tracks. For stereo, you need two of those tracks. If you want to bounce down to stereo, you need another machine. You can record all four tracks, bounce it down to your computer in stereo, then play it back to 2 tracks on the 4 track, then record another 2 tracks. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Thanks, Farview. This has at least reassured me that I'm not losing my mind or misreading the manual.
