Boss BR-1600CD what is needed

My friend/housemate is in Jamaica for a month & he just got & left his brand new Boss BR-1600 thingy & a MOTU 24IO 24-Channel Audio Interface. He said I could play with it & all, Im a singer, but Im not technically smart. I have a crappy/decent USB computer Mic what else do I need to record (do I need a normal mic). It looks like this thing can mix and master not like Im going to be doing it though. But any help so the next 3.5 weeks can be somewhat enjoyable.

Just my opinion:

It is nice to learn what you can and experiment with the whole recording process as a whole. Maybe the best thing that could have happened was your roomate leaving and sparking interest in you as it pertains to music. Learn what you can and ask questions, but don't expect to learn how to record and reveal a decent product at best in 3 1/2 weeks. I don't believe a USB mic will work with the 1600, you will need either a phantom powered or a 1/4 mic that you can plug directly into the 1600.
I recommend that you wait for the return of your roomate and then dig into the infinite levels of recording that you can..........
