First of all, you won't need to connect the BR to your receiver. You'll connect the audio outs of the BR directly into the line in on your sound card. If you'd like you can connect the receiver to the output of the sound card so you can monitor what going on (or just use headphones). Now all you need is a program capable of recording. Windows itself has a sound recorder in accessories which will work, but is a very basic recorder. If you're looking at doing some higher quality work you'll probably want to get a good wave editor (GoldWave comes to mind) and use that for recording and editing. Either way the file you'll end up with is a *.wav file and you'll be able to burn that to CD.

The preinstalled sound card in your machine is most likely nothing special, but it will work for what you're trying to do. For higher quality work you'll probably want to purchase a bit of a higher end card (there's lot of choices out there). To find out more info on that card go into device manager and take a look at Sound, Video and Game controllers. Here you'll find the name of the card (listed as __________ audio driver). Now you can do some research online and gets the specs of the card.

Hope this helps.

All you need to do is go out and buy a smart card reader (20 bucks or so) Download Br-track to .wav converter software from Boss site. You just take the smart card out of the 4-track and put it into the reader and follow directions. Very easy and quick.

I would have to agree with Stray. This is exactly how I do it also. I use Soundblaster Live sound card. I have never had to use the Br8 converter. I think the converter might have something to do with being able to send tracks to diferent Br8 users to compose songs over the internet. Awhile back I saw a Band that played originals songs by, I think 7 players, from 7 different countries, all done by sending their parts through the Internet.

gtrist, Yep it's way too easy. I convert the .wav to mp-3 and mail parts back to a buddy to check out and work on. Not sure if you loose any quality when converted to .wav from the reader? But it's easily burned to cd from the .wav file and it'll only run about 20 or 25 bucks. Just thought I would throw that out there in case he has a real cheap soundcard like mine that does not have an input and depending on where the p.c. is located it might be more of a pain to crawl behind and hook up the recorder every time. I have USB ports on the side of the monitor so it's just too convinient...and errrr, y'know the cheap sound card thing... Going to take care of that soon though
