Boray's listening challenge II: VSPlanet.com vs. HomeRecording.com
There is one Boray Special CD at stake as well as the great honour of being on the winning team. Which BBS has the best set of ears - VSPlanet.com or Homerecording.com? If nothing else, this will be a good listening exercise for you.
First, start to download the mp3 so that the download is finnished when you have read through all the rules: (988kb) (Right mouse button and choose "Save Target As...")
The mp3 consists of 5 parts:
0:00-0:12 = the original recording.
0:12-0:25 = "Part A"
0:25-0:37 = "Part B"
0:37-0:50 = "Part C"
0:50-1:02 = "Part D"
Your job is to match parts A to D with the following four:
1. New Alesis monitors (Alesis M1 active Mk2)
2. "DUX" - A 25 years old stereo (Dux Sound Project TAPC4000 with DX181 speakers (30W, 1.2W sensitivity).
3. New Alesis monitors simulating the "DUX"
4. "DUX" simulating the new Alesis monitors
The simulations was done according to my new EQ method: http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72150
You participate in the contest by posting your answer in this thread, an example answer could be:
A=1, B=2, C=4, D=3
A score is given each person according to this:
All correct = 5 points.
2 correct = 2 points.
1 correct = 1 point.
Then an average will be calculated for each BBS to get the name of the winning BBS.
One winning person will be appointed to win a "Boray special CD". If only one person had 5 points, then he/she will win the CD regardless of BBS. If more than one person had 5 points, then the one of the winning BBS will get the CD. If more than one person on the winning BBS had 5 points, then the winner will be appointed among them by the RND() function of my Commodore 64.
More rules:
* You are only allowed to submit ONE answer! (on either VSPlanet or Homerecording)
* No working together allowed! This is in first hand an individual contest!
* Editing or deleting posts is considered cheating.
* You are not allowed to compete if you haven't heard the mp3.
* Any comments on why you think you have the right answer or comments about what you think you hear etc. is strictly forbidden.
* If the winning person don't like to have the CD, then it goes to the next one.
* The contest will be over at January 10, 11:00 AM Central European Time.
The recording was made in this way: The test source was the output of a Roland VS1680 playing a solo from my latest tune. The speakers/monitors was recorded with two AudioTechnica ATM31a, at the listening position with one mic pointing at each speaker. Preams: A Behringer MX802A mixer. Then directly recorded to a minidisk. The original was also recorded to the minidisk. I then recorded the minidisk on my VS840EX that I brought to my computer and recorded everything through my old Soundblaster16 card. And I then encoded to mp3 using GoldWave. The reason I did all this was just that this is by far the easiest way for me to transfer it to the computer.
Tip: Listen with headphones!
Good luck! And let the games begin!
