i really like the style.. im a rock/blues/jazz fan. It would be better with more dynamics in the drums and even the bass... the guitar is hottt, with three t's. great mix. drums are just too fake for me tho... but you worked it with what you got, and its great.

I'll second the hottt, with three t's, guitar licks... well done.

The drums do sound programmed, but I think its more in the context of they sound more processed than the rest of the mix (which tips the hat at being fake).

Otherwise it was well done... like the lines!

Thanks guys,
I don't think the drums sound fake...but thats cool...
I appreciate your input...:)

what did you use to record your guitar? (Line 6 POD?) if so sounds really good (as everyone pointed out)... and super clean. if so, which model, you may have convinced me that amp modeling might be a viable option for me (we all know trying to mic a marshall stack (esp in a condo with neighbors) can be a task)

good work though. i listened to a bunch of you "dem ohhs" and enjoyed them all. you have some talent. :)

The drums sound good to me.
The whole sample sounds good to me.

What's with this crap, "The drums sound fake"? Maybe the guy doesn't have a nice fifteen piece Slingerland kit like you have.
Whinning about the drums isn't very constructive, in my opinion. Its more like the author doesn't have much to say about critquing.
I'd like to hear some of the authors of the "The drums sound fake" comments recordings. Unless they have drums, know a drummer to come in and set with them or a professional 'fake drums' machine, Blahhh!

This is so nitty. Whether you know it or not, not everyone plays or has acess to a drum kit.

Why don't we get down to "critiquing" the man/woman's "recording" rather than worry about real or fake drums.

freedom of speech, bud. It didn't seem real to me, sorry i have my own opinions. I didn't say it sounded bad, just not real... which it is a drum machine, and like I pointed out, i'd rather see real drums... not machined ones... and I believe I also said that he did work it with what he had... I don't see anything negetive about that... you'll never get the truth with a "i don't wanna hurt your feelings approach".... my recordings aren't very good, but then again, i don't really spend any time on them, its kinda for a reference type deal. You shouldn't be so defensive... toughen up and wear a helmet.

Very nice guitar playing. I also like the quality of the recording. Drums were just fine. My only question, "Where's the vocals?"

=)

What you'd like to see (real drums) is not a topic in critiquing. We are to be talking about 'music', not the gear used.
I'm not defensive, I'm pretty agressive. I want to see and hear music critiqes, not if someone uses a drum machine, or a some other piece of gear that's not acceptable to you and everyone else that has something to say, including myself.
Fake drums are no different that loops most people use, cheap guitars instead of expensive.
Stick to the music and recordings, not what makes it. :)

it's still an aspect of the production, so therefore, a valid point... instead of limiting a critique to just what you see as valid, I merely pointed out that real drums would simply make it better.... as some songs sound better with machined drums, I didn't feel that was the case here... anyway you look at it, it's still a valid point, weither you see it or not.

I suggest you just mind your own, its not really any of your concern anyway.. i wasn't trying to help you, or critique you... if rld has a problem with my comments, then that's a whole other issue.

I also feel that critiquing could involve anything within the song, not just weither it's good or not... that's pretty vague... I pointed out what I thought could be improved, again, a valid comment, a valid critique.

Where will it end, cheap strings?
Low end guitars?
I'm quite sure the people recording know what gear they use and would certinly upgrade it they had the $ or EU.
I don't care what you say, wankin' out on someones gear isn't going to improve the mix with what they have to work with.

Hell, I give up, talk about what the hell you want.

Well girls...let me add my 2 cents.
1st off..review..Finally...a guitar player who can play...decent chops...nice solo ideas, decent tone...in tune...damn...not the norm here!! I thought the pod sounded good man. For me...not quite good enough tho. I'll stick with my Mesa Boogie tyvm! The rhythm tracks were too far down in the mix and not quite defined in tone. The drums...ya...they sound gr8 for WHAT THEY ARE> good job on the guitar work and songwriting. I don't care for your mix at all. (composition wise...I was looking for a break in the middle ala Eric Claptons version of Hideaway where the band does stops). OPINIONS....like assholes man...everbodys got one. Comments like "fake azz drums" are very consructive...It's all part of the "SOUND" of the song being presented on this forum. We listen for EVERYTHING and give our opinion about it......
now STFU!

Now, here's a dude that has done his share of woodsheddin' and come out of it with his own way of doing things. Very nice chops, man!

Critiques:

It's not that the rythym tracks are too low, the lead tracks are just a bit too hot. Bring it down a bit and use a Peak Limiter to bring the overall volume back up. It's a bit overcompressed.

Ya chopped off the ending!

Overall, good job! Very nice Jump Blues playin'!!!

Hey, thanks everyone for your comments...
Yes opinions can be different and varied and for that reason, when it's all said and done I usually go with my own instincts...
These drums are not "fake" sounding to me...they are in fact real drum samples, multi layered and recorded in a top of the line studio with much better equipment than most of us will ever use or see.
The samples are triggered with midi files that were recorded by a real drummer. I have used drum machines in the past and these drums are miles ahead of any machine.
Its been my experience that most people including musicians can't tell the difference between live recorded drums and the newer midi file based sample sets....
But, that is just my opinion and some will disagree...

PaLiC,
Yes, its a Line 6 POD...Its the table top kidney shaped unit...
Thanks!...;)

cincy_kid,
This was written for a TV/Film listing and the producer wanted a instrumental under 3 minutes...hence no vocals..

Thanks everyone...
