nice sound.. great mix.. I thought the piano sound was pretty good.. For some reason, this song reminds me of the Welcome Back Kotter theme.. I like it.. the only Randy Newman song I know is 'I love L.A.' I'm sure that's not his best..

even cooler than normal!! :D

Sounds good to me. I like the verb on the vocal.

Good lyrics too. I'm no piano expert, and I don't know if this is a new version, but it sounds pretty cool to me.

Good stuff!

im glad to see another crawdad tune :)
sounds really good!
boy.. i wish i had pipes like that... :) i swear your bob segars brother

the piano style is a mix between elton john and bill joel.. great job there.

really enjoyed.. thanks for putting this into the ether!

Jamal--Thats a funny coincidence--your story. Can't find anything new at Blockbuster?:D Thanks for the listen.

Kramer--I did separate takes of the piano and the voice. I wanted to do them together, but I could barely get through the piano!

macle--Great parody of Short People! You crack me up!

Fangar--Thanks for listening...

DavidK--My thanks to you and your girlfriend. By the way, I hope she's feeling better. Someday, I'd love to have you orchestrate something. I love your skill and tone!

Pedullist--OK....I'm sorry....:( :D :( :D

Christiaan--Thanks. Hey did you listen to version2 or the first one? Still tryin gto get a handle on the piano, but I agree with your take on the vocal/piano type mix.

Dobro--I swear its the same vocal--just added some reverb. Maybe that changed the character of the voice EQ some, but I didn't alter it any. Speaking of dark, I thought that tune you posted a couple weeks ago was VERY dark! And, yeah--the guy in the song is aloof from the whole reality. Its like theres no connection between reality and what comes on the tube. He's not really concerned about his fellow man too much either.

B.Sabbath--I can see where you get the Welcome Back thing. I think its that repetitive chorus. One of the things I've tried to do is make every post different from the last. I mean, I'm probably not gonna ever sound like Rage Against The Machine, LOL, I've got my niches and all. But I do try to go to different places when I can.

djc--Thank you, sir!

SluiCe--Yes, this is version 2. I'm pretty happy with it now. The first one had a really bright piano which I nixed.

JMarcomb--Thanks man! Hey, maybe I AM Segars brother! If so, I'm gonna see if he can loan me a mil or so to tide me over until my career really blooms!:D Well, back into the ether I go....

except that the lyric's were soooooooo cool!!!!!!!!:D

Thank's crawdaddy!!!!!!

Peace

Rick

Rick and Tim---Thank you for that. Despite the sarcastic lyrics, I just need to say that today's events sadden me. I keep thinking of how lucky I am to have lived this long without catastrophe to my own life. Then, I think of the harm that seems destined to come to so many with this seemingly inevitable war. The fuse is lit and there ain't no turning this rig around. The innocent are the ones who will pay the most dearly, as well as those who are the pawns of power.

We humans have a natural instinct to attack anything that defies us. I don't know where it is in our souls that this desire for violence comes from, but I sense many supporters of the war who are eagerly awaiting the hammer coming down in a tremendous fury.

I believe in freedom and would probably fight for it myself if needed. On the other hand, doesn't it seems like every political word that is uttered these days is a carefully crafted lie? I believe no one. Its hard to see the truth when its in this maze of smoke and mirrors.

I'm a spiritual person, yet not affiliated with any particular religion. Tonight, I continue to pray for the 11th hour solution that saves the innocent and calms the anger and desire for revenge at any price. I'm probably a fool and an outcast for thinking as a human being rather than a citizen of a country. Whatever happens, the world will go on. Those unaffected will waltz through their lives. Nothing will really change. There will be other wars and other conflicts for the eager viewers to watch on CNN. What I am and what I say means nothing, but please pray, if you are so inclined, for the lives of the innocent and for peace.

well said man.
i to have been praying for all the innocent, and been praying that the leaders that are involved in this will look at this in a different light( possibly the way god would see it). becuase i do not believe he would want anyone killing eachother.
and no i dont think you are a fool for thinking as a human being.
i believe that is the problem here it is called pride and no one will give in to it even though it means thousands of lives are at stake.
no body thinks with there hearts anymore, they let there foolish heads get in the way when it comes to major things like this.
for now i will continue to pray and hope that tommorow will bring peace. nicely said crawdad. you realy earned my respect with that one. god bless tim pate

...iraqi people are just the same as you and I...(a fool such as I) :)

Hey Crawdad, just as Randy Newman does so well, the tragedy and sadness beneath the humor is what really makes it work.

I'm probably a fool and an outcast for thinking as a human being rather than a citizen of a country.

As another great songwriter from the past said, "you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one..."

Peace,
Macle

flash2ace--Yeah, my brother--you have heart..and its in the right place. What the news fails to tell us is that 99% of the world feels the same in human terms. Once you have a family and friends, you care for them in a different way. I had a dream once where all the people of the world got together and came to settle their scores. Two opposed men came forward to do battle and a little girl ran out to stop them. While she was running, she tripped and fell, hurting herself badly. The men stopped and ran to help her. Soon, all the representatives of all the nations were compelled to introduce themselves to each other, moved by the compassion of the warriors, finding a way to reach out beyond their cultural and linguistic barriers. In the end, they found that they shared common fears and common dreams and they came together as one group of similar souls. Then a celebration began and, at the heart of it, was this incredible music that all people of all lands understood from the heart. In the midst of the gathering, there was laughter, and in that instant, the world changed forever.

OK. I made that up, but thats my dream.

macle--I can't tell you how many times the lyrics from Imagine have crossed my mind in these last few days and weeks. Like Lennon sang, 'I'm not the only one'. Truer words were never spoken. Idealistic? Yes. My question is this: who are the few that scoff at ideals? My answer is this: those who have nothing to gain from seeing those ideals bear fruit. Therein lies the answer to it all.

Heh Heh...Very nice man. I definitely heard Randy Newman all over it (except you didn't make your voice sound quite bad enough ;) :D). Seriously I like Randy Newman as a diversion and somthing interesting once in awhile. Something about his voice that attracts me. Don't exactly know why, and I get a chukle out of some of his songs. This was done very well. Man you write like nobody's business. Nice work

hahahahaha....I just listened to it another couple times. It just keeps getting better. I really like this. I don't know if it was the reaction you intended, but I'm getting a few chuckles out of this one. Just picturing someone turning on CNN with a popcorn and a diet coke about made me piss my pants. It's such a juxtaposition of the trivial (popcorn & coke) and the serious (war). Well done man. This has to go in the keeperd folder. :D

Great song! You really captured the Newman vibe.

Don't ever lose your sense of humor.

Of course there is no humor without truth.;)

The best compliment I can give to this song is this: I listened to it exactly fifteen minutes ago and then went into the kitchen to make a sandwich. The ENTIRE time I was in there I sang it over and over in my best Randy Newman voice(which pathetically falls short of yours). Once it was in my head it stayed there and just replayed itself over and over. If that's not the sign of a good song then I don't know what a good song is. Outstanding writing.

BTW, yours and others' recollection of Imagine seems to be a perfect fit today. It reminds me of yet another another line from the song..."above us only sky..." That same sky encircles us all: The good, the bad, the dreamers and the doomed. And what affects one, affects another. Regardless of where we stand in this madness I still think that peace is the prevailing wish of everyone involved.

Or at least I want to think it...

Hi Crawdad

I think you have a very nice voice, its sounds like a Billy Joel song. I always listen to the lyrics after listening to the song and was a wee bit startled. My friend just loved this by the way.

Erland

nothing to add except i am a RN fan and enjoyed this very much...like erland said, i can hear a bit of billy joel in there as well..really nice work.:)

I want to believe that, I really do. But I don't know of any churches over here that have powerful religious figures preaching to strike out at innocent civilians wherever you find them. I also never see Americans grouped together with guns in the air chanting death to Iraq?

I hate war, and I also pray that it never happens but I just think that should be said.

Joe

Joe, since you quoted my little line there, I feel compelled to respond, but I don't want to turn Crawdad's thread into a useless debate. (I stand by the line.)

Peace,
macle
