Blew a Monitor somehow.... what now?

Yeah exactly....... it's a broken tweeter, and I've taken it to the broken tweeter store.

Now I've got KLUDGE (who is looking very very red right about now) calling me a child, and boingoman's useless little comment about me not wanting to unscrew something.

(I'm still scratching my head about that one bonerman...... have you ever held any kind of speaker in your hand.........? If it's broken, it's broken. Unscrew it and DO WHAT ??????)

You certainly are a whiney one, aren't you?

Maybe- throw a meter on it to make sure the tweeter's actually blown? If the woofer is distorting, gently press on it to see if it's rubbing. I usually check that first, cause there's an active crossover and two amps in there too, lots of places for stuff to go wrong, might as well get the easy stuff out of the way first. Check for anything obvious visually disconnected or burnt. Throw a dummy load on the thing and check the output of the amps and crossover.

You know, stuff a tech does.

They are active monitors, that's gonna be tricky! Matty here doesn't seem like he'd be up for unscrewing anything anyway. ;)

There's still the input cables. At some point, the speakers are connected to the rest of the system, SOMEHOW. That's where the switch should be.

It's sad that he thinks I'm calling him an idiot for suggesting such a thing. Heck, I have to do scientific-method debugging all the time, and if I'm not careful I miss things. That's life in a technical world. Among serious engineering professionals, I've never seen "Is it turned on? How do you KNOW it's turned on?" type questions taken as an offense. We know what the score is.

Are you kidding me?

As if I didn't already do all that.

And I DID UNSCREW THE TWEETER......... you know what I found in there ???

A TWEETER.

What was I supposed to do after that ?

Have a little NEG for the Children comment KLUDGE.

Wow.... so that's what it feels like.

Was that really necessary? The "children" comment was because a reasonable techical discussion was degenerating into a flamewar, for no good reason. And my response wasn't some indirect way of insulting you... it was a legitimate engineering approach. If someone had said the same thing to me in the same situation, I'd either just say "Yes, I already did that" (politely!), or I'd thank them and go do that.

Y'know, I'm new here. I'm trying to find a community of people to learn from, and it felt good to be able to contribute what I felt was a useful suggestion. And for that, I'm attacked and insulted?

I can't say I'm feeling real guilty about the "children" remark now.

Glad to have you here.
but ya' know ..... in any group of people there will always be those that are quick to take offense and quick to overreact .... in real life or the 'net.
You just have to expect it. There'll be plenty of folks here you grow to consider 'friends'. Hell ... I drive up to Detroit to visit and jam with one guy that I met right here.
Keep helping ....... it'll be worthwhile.

Stuff a tech does..... a tech who has worked on Studio Monitor's before.

I appreciate your technical help.... (which is why I posted in the first place) but what is with the little jabs you always need to throw in at the end?

"You know, stuff a tech does"

Lt. Bob is right, and I DO have friends on the BBS.

I'm just sick of these types who seem to troll around just to wail on someone, or to sooth their own damaged ego's or self image problems.

I highly regret asking for any sort of suggestions for this problem, I was hoping someone else had had a similar problem and knew of a fuse to change or a quick fix. I was also hoping to find out roughly what this was going to cost. Instead, some little men dropped by too toss out some little comments here and there, directed towards me being a techncian, or towards the fact that all the Roland equipment I've spent thousands on, has turned out to be lame.

This thread is completely pathetic now.

I am sorry I asked for any kind of advice.

Why my credentials as a technician keep getting jabbed at with little comments from little people is beyond me.

Oh well, according to my general ledger - I am a damn good technician / sales person.

(If PC's start shipping with tweeter's installed in them - I could be in serious trouble)

Hopefully this awful thread dies soon, and thanks for nothing to those who suck.
