I have a brand new Acer Aspire 1350 Laptop. The main reason I bought it besides school work was for recording purposes. My old crappy computer recorded things fine, but it didn't have enough memory or space for enjoyable recording.

I can record the first track fine, but then when I play it back while recording the second track, it records everything, which just makes a huge mess of sound.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem, or is it simply my soundcard?

Double click the little speaker by the clock.
Click Options.
Click Properties.
Click the button for Recording in "Adjust volume for".
Place a check mark at all of the options listed under "Show the following volume controls".
Click OK.
Now you will be looking at the Recording controls.
Select either the Line In or Mic In, depending on which input you are using.

Likely you have it set to Stereo Mix or Wave Out or something of that nature.
