Blackface ADAT error Er2 message

I just bought a used ADAT from a guy off eBay to add to my collection. It finally arrived, and it won't accept a tape - as soon as it's shoved in, it kicks it out and "Er2" shows in the display. I've tried several tapes, and the same thing happens. Er3 means that there's some type of transport problem, but when I opened it up and looked around, everything looks fine. Any ideas about what to look for?

It might be the idler wheel or the belt. Friend of mine just had his Lx-20 repaired with the same symptons!...

It's in the hands of UPS, on it's way back to the eBay seller.

here's a link that explains adat error messages and ways to correct them.

Thanks! Hopefully, the dirtbag that sold me the beat up POS will refund my money, and re-sell the POS as a "parts only" blackface ADAT. Got my fingers crossed...

I got an Email from the dirtbag today - he said he's keeping my money, and refusing to accept the UPS delivery of his returned non-working ADAT. Looks like I'm getting royally screwed on my second eBay adventure. There certainly won't be a third. I hope he chokes on my negative feedback about him.

I got screwed on eBay

Yep... the guy hid from the UPS truck three times on three different days so he wouldn't have to receive it. He said the guy he got it from told him it worked, which he mentioned in his eBay site. But when this beat up old ADAT showed up in a pristine and well-packed shipping carton I contacted him right away. He said it was damaged by UPS and it was my problem. I had the ADAT checked out, and his beat up old ADAT had a burnt-out and non-servicable motion switch instead of being the nice ADAT that he implied was working and in good shape. He said he'd give my money back if I changed the negative feedback I gave him on eBay to a positive one, but I had to change the feedback before he'd refund my money. Then he said he changed his mind, and said he'd only give me 50% back and the ADAT. Then he said he was going to refuse the UPS shipment, and that he'd sent me his last Email. He told me he was a "Power Seller" with over 600 sales, and I was some guy with only two (great) feedbacks, so "too bad". Now he's quit communicating, and I expect UPS will send his old beater back to me.

I hope the fucker has hemorrhoids and eats a greasy dinner... :(

Update

I filed a claim with eBay... this seller is a scum bag.

How about posting his ebay name here so that none of us will want to buy from him. If he sells a lot of recording gear that would be more damaging than a single bad mark on ebay. :)
