Excellent shit man....I dig it all...one wouldn't play for me, but the other 3 were kickass.....

Thanks Dogman. I better check on the tune that won't play...

You are

High if you didn't vote Black Sabbath. Without Iommi tuning down his guitar the metal tone we know today would not exist.

But this isnt about well IF SO AND SO DIDNT DO THIS THEN WE WOULDNT HAVE THAT. Its about WHO gave more to metal. Who changed it the most, Who perfected it the best!

OHHHHH! Then I'd say Warrant. Or Nelson. Or maybe Poison.

Death

Death is the band that contributed the most to metal.
RIP Chuck!

Yeah Warrant,
She's My Cherry Pie - that launched a thousand shits.

Yep, it just does'nt get any better than Cherrie Pie. That changed music forever.

Tal Farlo ( late 30s jazz guitarist ) was the first to tune down , as far as guitar history goes ... but Sabbath kicks the *#!^ out of *%$# ...

Robert Johnson tuned standard flat as well as open tunings, but lots of people before him used open tunings...

There were influential, no doubt. Their influence by Sabbath still makes Sabbath the kings of metal though.....

Damn shame everything they have put out since ...And Justice for All has licked the chode though.

Ok this is coming from another thread. I am pissed. Metallica has clearly revolutionsed metal in every way and I want people to know that. We wouldnt have alot of the rock we have today if it wasnt for them. They were innovative and were truely original. Each song you hear, you can right away disinguish it from any other band and not confuse it with any of their other songs. They were creative in every aspect. From their equipment set up to their song structure!
Iron Maiden too but my hands hurt from typing...but they contributed alot too. :D

Iron Maiden are still doing what they did for metal 25 years ago plus! :)

Motorhead anyone? Been around a long time. If "the Ace of spades" isn't metal I don't know what is.

Never mind...they didn't contribute the most, they're just overlooked as far as the history of metal...Deep Purple too.

J.P.

Black Sabbath of course. They invented Metal at a time when everyone else were celebrating the summer of love and walking around with flowers in their hair. 1969 guys.

I do like Master of Puppets though, a solid metal album, after that is has all been downhill.

Go buy the movie "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" made by Sam Dunn.

He's an anthropologist and metalhead who did movie about heavy metal. Its a half decent athropological work and a pretty good movie. Its a very good watch.

So...

If you think of metal as super heavy and super fast... OK, metallica had a big influence on it at first. Not because they did it better than anyone, but because they made it a commerical success. Slayer was actually way faster and heavier (still are...) but they didn't have as much commercial appeal. Anthrax was faster and heavier in some ways, too.

But to deny Black Sabbath (and Deep Purple, Led Zep, Alice Cooper and the rest) their place as the orginators of Metal because YOU don't like them is silly. Its simply true. You can draw the line somewhere else if you want to, but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to agree, eh?

You do realize that the bands themselves don't argue about who influenced what the most? They don't care. There is no one keeping score and most of these conversations sound like "My favorite band can beat up your favorite band!!! Nyah!"

Its not a competition. At all. Its about making good music. If other people like it...GREAT!!

labels didnt fund for the kind of production metal bands needed unless they were glam in the 80's metallica built up an army from fucking nothing and they still are the 8th biggest selling act in american history u cant argue with that shit- Andrew(a great friend of mine)
CHECK OUT HIS band www.myspace.com/buryingthetrend

I THINK THAT SAYS IT ALL ASSHOLES

.....and some more....

metallica didnt get airplay cause america was hooked on yes the destroyers of metal, motley crue, poison, bon jovi, ect...but if ur gona sit here and say metallica made metal mainstream and killed it....ur a retard.....im not saying its dead today cause its very much alive and is about to come back BIG TIME...metallica opened the worlds eyes to bands like slayer, and anthrax they didnt get much if any air play till they toured with tallica.metallica just got lucky and was doing the right thing at the right time and the entire world loved it, u cant argue with record sales, they are the biggest band on earth black album alone sells 5 million copies a year....thats enough to put all 4 of ur kids through college, metallica didnt kill metal they gave it birth...maybe not the music but we wouldnt have bands like killswitch engage, lamb of god, shadows fall, devil driver, sevendust, if tallica wasnt around. KINDA OFF TOPIC BUT JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW- Andrew(friend of mine) Check out his band www.myspace.com/buryingthetrend

"u cant argue with record sales"
Completely counters the previous post complaining about record companies not funding production values.
How about "Neither a borrower nor a lender be."
or
Are we in the world of Alanis style "irony".

Sabbath invented metal. That is all. Others have flavored it since, and arguably surpassed them, but no Sabbath means no metal.

A-Fucking-Men!

Praise Iommi, Bow down to Geezer!

Worship at the cross of Sabbath!

Iommi invented Metal, and Geezer gave it a 'voice'!
