Hi All,

I'm using Cubase Studio 4 and have been working on a new project at 48/24. After tracking, mixing and some finishing touches I mixdown to an .aif. I then open a new project with the Cubase's mastering template. I apply a little EQ, some sheen with a maximizer, a limiter and dither in that order. I would not call it mastering but it makes my listening experience better.

Then I convert the .aif file to an .mp3 with iTunes...

The result is not musical. When I down load the file it plays well and nicely on any player. But when played via internet, the result is not musical.

What could be the problem?

If it downloads and plays okay on a standalone app, then it's probably the website player that is having problems. Is there a place where we can hear the problem you're referring to?

Peace,

depends what website you use. Myspace and others resample all their uploads so the songs stream on slower connections and to keep down bandwidth on their servers. Obviously this downsampling can drasticaly effect some songs more than others, especialy if they're not "great" at mixdown stage. Downsampling is a sure fire way to unveil the limitations in your mixes.

Yes but I need five posts to include a link and I only have three... lets see that means I need two more...

+1

Soundclick requires your mp3's to be 128kbps or less. Reconvert your file and you should be okay.

Peace,
