Big Problem

My band was recording on a friend's 1680, and we had about 3/4 of our album (musically) done. Last night, we got an error during shutdown about "Invalid Drive", or "unknown drive". What it was trying to do was save the file we had all the stuff on, and halfway through the save, it said this error. It then shutdown normally. On powerup, it wouldn't load the file we had dubbed "song", and after trying to load this file it kicked us into the standard "initialsong1". The weird thing is that it says that "song" is open, but "initialsong1" is the file that is used. The machine doesn't want to do anything....it won't save, open, etc. We took it to a repair place today to try and salvage anything, but we were told the hard drive was screwed beyond repair, but then they took a look themselves and I don't think they've ever seen this before. I'm wondering if anyone here has seen this problem and whether or not anything can be done to save this precious information. Thanks a lot.

 Yikes.... I'm sorry I don't have a suggestion for you other than to try and find a recovery company that has some experience in handling/recovering digital audio.

But hey, congratulations! You just learned one of the most important lessons in dealing with digital recording technology --> ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS...

This applies to computer-based AND tape-based digital systems.
