I have an old HiWatt Lead 20. I believe they are EL 84's. A friend of mine used to have 2 and he used one for the rhythm and one for lead. He always said that he retubed them to tweak, but I never knew EXACTLY how he did them to gt it to the sound that he wanted.

Any wizzes here have some expanations and/or tips as to exactly how to get in and understand this?

Thanks :)

Not quite sure i understand the question... but im guessing that your friend had 2 amps.. and used an A/B switch on stage to switch between them.. one of htem for lead, one for rhythm... he probably just biased one of them hotter than the other... gives a different sound.. also wears out the tubes quicker....

i dont recommend trying these things yourself.. there is enough voltage in there to KILL you. so beware.

He actually used 2 HiWatt Lead 20's, and 3 Orange Squeeze old heads. All had amazing tone. The difference, of course, was that he KNEW what he was doing. I just knew what I wanted :)

It sounded like you understand the question, but other than 'don't kill yourself' I just don't understand what the processes and the mechanisms are... I would not want to kill myself either.

I don't know mechanics of tubes and amps in any way vs. say a guitar guitars. I'm trying to learn more... and without the rubber gloves :)
