Anyone here know anything about this MIC? I did not find any info when I googled it.

I asked about a good MIC for recding acoustic guitar and the shop owner showed me a used Beyerdynamic CK704. Said he would give it up for $80 US. price tag says $120. we hooked it up @ the shop and it sounded good but I'm not sure if this is a great deal or if I should just go with an SM57.

It's a very good SD condenser mic - especially for that price. It was part of an interchangeable capsule/amplifier set. The amplifier (mic body) was the model CV710 or CV720 (usually the 710). There were multiple capsules that could be used with the mic bodies. The CK704 is the cardioid capsule. The CV701 and 702 are omni capsules. The CK703 is also a cardioid capsule. CK706 and 707 are cardioid/shotgun capsules and CK708 is a figure of 8 capsule. The combo CV710 amplifier and CK704 capsule is called an MC714. I have an MC711 (omni). Very nice. I'd grab it quick if I were you. There were some up on e-bay recently that went for a lot more than that.

Here's the recent E-Bay sale:

Basically three mic bodies/amps, 2 omni capsules, 2 cardioid capsules, one figure 8 capsule, 2 clips and 2 foam screens for $624.

I'd say $80 for a single cardioid is a pretty good deal. I think I paid $120 for my omni and was pleased with that. I'd say they are quite comparable to the AKG C451 and AT4051a. Definitely a step up over Oktava, MXL, Rode, etc. Original list price on these (body and capsule) was @ $1200DM or $785US at today's conversion rate. I think they go cheap here because they are relatively unknown in the States.

Thanks for the input pohaku. I called the guitar shop and told him I will get it. :)
