which would you buy if you were a starting musician such as i?

if either.

i really would like to spend only around 500 dollars.

any used ebay finds you know of i would be really interested in hearing your opinions about as well.

i'm gonna be recording indie/electro/dream pop-ish stuff. maybe veering into showgaze a bit.
basically electroclash :)

thanks for any help.

Neither actually. The S03 is your general meat and potatoes synth with cheap keyboard action. The microKorg is a cool board, but mini-keys quickly become very annoying.

I'd rather pick up a 49 or 61 key controller and a Waldorf MicroQ, maybe a used Korg MS2000 or Roland JP8000...

If you're not doing anything live, it might even make sense to go the PC route with something like Reason or Fruity Loops.

looks cool, but out of my price range.

except the korg you mentioned. that was on ebay for 400-500 or so.

hm. yeah, i don't even know why i chose these two in my topic. i'm just starting and i still don't understand really what sound i want or how all the many types of gear out there differ.
i don't even know what a controller is or what a sound module like the waldorf microQ does, how to use it, why you would use that instead of a keyboard/synth, etc.

i would not be using this stuff live, no. just personal recording.

i thought fruityloops was just a drum machine program?

thanks for your input :)

another idea

You might want to look at getting Reason. It sounds like it would do most of what your wanting to do. You would still need a controller keyboard, but you could get the software and a controller for the amount you are talking about.
