sounds like a tuning problem..did you tune it? if not..well then thats wank..just my opinion..like pickin up a guitar without tuning it or buying a car without looking under the hood and testdriving it..
that snares got more tones than one drummer can use..when they actually know how to tune a drum..ive met hundreds of drummers..and only handfulls of properly tuned sets ;)

also head choice..try any other heads?
are you basing your opinion on pulling a drum out a box and wackin' it with a stick?

Yes, I'm only ragging on the bloke for fun. But seriously, one of the examples was owned by the seventeen-year-old son of a drummer my own age - a massive Jordison fan whose old Man ought to have known how to tune a snare; the other one was in a music shop whose drum department was run by a totally anally-retentive muso. We auditioned that snare but ended up with a Tama Artwood. Both Jordison snares sounded 'orrible, but I can't explain why.

hmm..ya its the head man..they put crap heads on a 300 dollar snare lol right out the gate..took me a good hour to tune mine right..
but when i did oh man..that thing rocks..i mostly love the pastie black alpha's of his..some of the best sounding cybals ive put my ears on while playing a set in a long time..
they seem to just tune in to every tone of the guitars and bass..
love em..i'm a big jordison fan but also love bill ward from sabbath who i feel is under rated lol
doods got skills..mad man..
i think the drummer from Lamb of God is killer to..
but they got to have stlye..ya know not just double bass 24/7 with snare pops and fills imho..
i'm a picky turd who loves talkin shitz..thats me lol
but couldnt stand by and watch jordison get hammered..doods came on to the scene at around 20 years old and killin it ever since..
i like this thread for sure..cheers

I vote for Lars Ulrich for both the best and worst drummer depending on what point in time you are referring to and your age at that time. If it's 1989 and you are 14, he rules. If it's 2011 and you are 36, he sucks.

Lol. Those things suck. Now you're just being a cheesey fanboi.

Travis Barker sags, Joey really sags. Best drummer ever may have to go to Barriemore Barlow. I can't believe how underrated he is along with the whole band, really. And I've asked myself and all my drummer friends with no avail... what is so great about John Bonham? He's up there with Lars Ulrich of the most overrated drummers ever. And the worst drummer ever probably gonna go to the guy from the Offspring ...damn.

It's all relative to a point in time with the oldschool guys. You have to imagine that in the 70's John Bonham was doing shit that was innovative in rock. However, if I was a drummer and put a video on youtube saying "check out my awesome 10 minute drum solo" on this day and did a bunch of Bonham stuff I would probably be bombed by comments from kids saying "dood u suk joey jordison kiks ur azz". Joey Jordison is not a bad drummer, it's just that he is not a great drummer. But, we live in a time where Synister Gates has his own signature guitar and Kerry King is on the cover of guitar magazines. There are still people going around saying Lars is the best drummer on earth, not because he's good but because they are fans. The average music listener doesn't appreciate double stick rolls or paradiddles and odd time signatures so to them it doesn't sound musical and they buy the music and dictate what gets radio airplay. Could you imagine Bonham with his sound back in the day doing a 280bpm blast beat? He was good for his time.

And if no one mentioned it yet, Mike Mangini will eat your children.

I feel responsible for this anti-Jordison witch-hunt. :D

Hmmm I always liked Steve Smith. He probably wasn't "the best"...but he could groove.

I think the band members were on the path to replacing Moon before he died anyway. They had given him ultimatums and he wasn't cutting it for the last couple of years. There's this documentary that I saw not long ago that shows him struggling to keep the beat and time.

It's hard to keep good time when you drink horse tranquilizer and brandy!!
:laughings:

Bernie Dresel is one of the greats ( brian setzer orchestra etc )
Just like guitar playing or drumming.
Its not how many notes or fancy tricks you can play.
Its just keeping it simple putting them in the right place.....
good groove is far superior than a one handed roll.......
bernie has it down

For my top 5:

1. Buddy Rich - Arguably the best drummer that's ever lived, as well as one of the most influential. His solo's continue to amaze me.
2. Gene Krupa - Probably the godfather of drumming.

3 and 4 are interchangeable with Steve Gadd and Keith Moon. I love Moon's mad style of drumming while still being able to fit in well with the melody. And Steve Gadd's grooves are just amazing.

5. Mike Portnoy - I absolutely hate him as a solo drummer, but he is just sublime in a band setting. Highlights are Scenes from a Memory with Dream Theater and his Liquid Tension Experiments.

I would probably put Bonham, Peart, Tony Williams, Bernard Purdie, and Weckl in my top 10.

Over-rated? Basically any metal or "speed" drummer that's out now. Speed's got nothing on a tasty groove.

Josh Freese is pretty cool in that he sounds like him. He's drummed on so much shit, but at the end of the day I can hear something and know its him, whether its Katy Perry or The Vandals. He serves the songs. No jack off rolls but also not a blank field.

I've never enjoyed AC/DC drums.

Tommy Igoe and Jim Chapin are solid. Brann Dailor is brutal.
I dont enjoy Jordison either.

This really is a personal question and you have to be accepting of other people's opinions in order to appreciate something of this nature. That said, I have a preference for simple drummers and never really cared for the John Bonham types. So here is my list of best drummers, I'd have a list for the worst drummers but I try to stay away from shitty music.
Jerry Nolan, Maureen Tucker, Tommy Ramone. The only shitty drummer that comes to mind is Meg White
