Record Archtop

I have been trying to get decent archtop sound in my home studio. I found this thread is what Ive' been looking for and love to hear further help.

My setup is, from es-175 to fender blues delux to computer DAW. I use sm85 for cab micing and DI from B.D. preamp out to have stereo input.

I did this last night. The amp out was little loud to bother neiborhood, so I covered the amp and the cap mic with two blankets. The results is losing room ambience.

And the level (DAW) was little low and the sound quality was muddy, I am considering to buy mic pre to get proper gain. Also thinking buying a mixer to capture several mic inputs and DI at the same time. Blending them with reverb using outboard would be helpful.

Some professional guy suggested using an expensive larger diaphram for cab micing and little diaphram near the archtop besides DI.

I do not know before I invest money for buying mic pre, outboard, diaphram that where the main problem lies.

If I make the amp louder in the reverbrant room, the quality will improve? Can I buy one more SM 58, instead of diaphram? I am pretty good at digital realm, but have no experience in getting analog source. How can I achieve decent jazz archtop sound?

I will appreciate any suggestions.

2 cents I'll give ya 10!

My thoughts are:
Direct is good but the combo of direct and mic'ed can be the most rewarding.
Or try overdubs of mic'ed with direct.
Or reamping can be an option.
Just remember if ya got big sounding drums big guitars are gonna make the track muddy and vice versa try oposing big drums with smaller guitars and let the bass be the filler to make it fuller.
