Looking to record my band live at practice. Was wondering what mic placement would work best to get the best sound. Not looking for professional but something that sounds decent.

I have the Tascam US-122 so I only have two inputs. We have a 10 channel PA, two guitars, bass and drums.

Should I just have a couple mic’s set up in the room? Mic the amps and drums, send to the PA, and record from there?

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it is purely for keeping track of song ideas and judging your own performances, I'd say just use sterio room mics and forget the close micing.

Thanks, I will try that. Any other suggestions or ideas to consider?

What mics do you have? I would say that if possible, mic the guitar cab, use 2 overheads on the the drums, one on the bass drum and run the bass direct. That gives you 2 drum inputs, a guitar, bass, and vocals. I would also throw in a direct guitar signal if possible. I am the kind of person that can't just keep things simple, I always have to try and get the most out of the equipment at hand.... if all it takes is time and effort what do you have to lose?:D
